WACO, Texas - Baylor's top-ranked women's tennis team returns to Big 12 action on Friday and Sunday, hosting No. 56 Oklahoma State and No. 32 Oklahoma at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
The Lady Bears are coming off one of the best weeks in program history, which included the biggest win ever with a defeat of No. 2 UCLA. Baylor also took down former No. 1, now No. 4 North Carolina and No. 13 USC. The defeat over UNC avenged a loss from earlier this season, while the Lady Bears win over USC was the second over the Trojans in 2010.
The wins also moved BU to the top of this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings for the first time in school history. The Lady Bears had previously been ranked No. 2 in the country in 2008 for one week.
In the ITA's most recent singles rankings, Lenka Broosova moved up to No. 5 from her eighth spot last week, while Nina Secerbegovic, who was named this week's Big 12 Player of the Week jumped from No. 41 to No. 18. Taylor Ormond, who earned the clinching point in each of the last two wins for Baylor, moved from No. 98 to no. 65. Csilla Borsanyi rounds out the Lady Bears in the rankings, checking in at No. 79. Borsanyi and Broosova also make up BU's only ranked doubles pair at No. 8.
The Lady Bears bring a 11-2 record, including a 2-0 mark in the Big 12 into Friday's match. Baylor is 9-2 on the season against ranked opponents, including a 4-1 mark against the top 10.
Oklahoma State enters the match with a record 7-2 on the season, with losses to only No. 14 Arkansas and No. 29 SMU. The Cowgirls, ranked No. 56, have no ranked singles or doubles players in last week's ITA rankings, but enter riding a three-match win streak.
Oklahoma, on the other hand, enters ranked No. 32 with one ranked singles player in No. 90 Ana-Maria Constantinescu and one ranked doubles tandem with No. 21 Constantinescu and Teona Tsertvadze. The Sooners enter on a two-match winning streak, along with a 9-1 overall record. The match will be their Big 12 season opener.
The first serve on Friday against OSU is slated for 5 p.m., while Sunday's match against OU is set to start at 1 p.m.
