WACO, Texas - Baylor's top-ranked women's tennis team (12-2, 3-0) swept the doubles point, then reeled off three quick wins on the first three courts en route to a 6-1 victory over No. 56 Oklahoma State (7-3, 0-1) on Friday evening at the Baylor Tennis Center. The win marked the34th in a row for the Lady Bears against Big 12 competition, dating back to the 2007 season.
"Oklahoma State is getting better, they have a new coaching staff and they are doing a great job," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "They gave us all we could handle at certain positions. Right now, for us, we're fine with that. We are coming off one of the toughest weeks we've ever had, so we were definitely pleased that at some spots we were able to work and some spots we got off the court quickly."
Baylor's top three players each took care of business in straight sets to clinch the match after Baylor had dismantled the Cowgirls in doubles play. On court one, No. 5 Lenka Broosova dropped just two games on her way to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Alisa Buslaieva. The win moved her singles record to 11-1 in dual-match play and 17-5 overall.
On courts two and three, No. 18 Nina Secerbegovic and No. 65 Taylor Ormond had little resistance in each extending their win streaks. Secerbegovic took a 6-3, 6-2 win over Sasha Belova for her 14th consecutive victory, while Ormond won her fifth consecutive match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Nataliya Shatkovskaya. Ormond's win also clinched the match for the Lady Bears, marking third consecutive match in which she has scored the deciding point.
"(Nina) is an incredible tennis player," Scrivano said. "She's got the gift to play this game and make it look easy. She's fun to watch."
In other singles action, Carla Lindlar turned in a solid effort on court six with a straight sets, 6-4, 6-0 victory, while Karolina Filipiak battled back from a set down to beat Malika Rose 6-7 (5), 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) in the super tiebreaker.
In doubles, Baylor took 8-2 victories on courts two and three, along with an 8-4 win on court one. Ormond teamed up with Karolina Filipiak on court three, while Secerbegovic and Jelena Stanivuk earned the victory on court two. Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi, ranked eighth, spotted Buslaieva and Alexadra Cristello a 2-0 lead, but dominated the rest of the match on the way to a win.
The Lady Bears will continue Big 12 action on Saturday, as they host No. 32 Oklahoma at 1 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
