AUSTIN, Texas - Baylor's seventh-ranked women's tennis took the doubles point and the top four singles spots to take down Big 12 rival Texas on Saturday in Austin, Texas.
"I thought both teams played a tough, physical match today," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "I'm proud of the way we competed on most of the courts today. The good news is that we still have room to improve and I believe our best tennis is in front of us."
Baylor's top three singles spots each continued season-best winning streak, while the Lady Bears' No. 4 spot, 79th-ranked Csilla Borsanyi returned to her winning ways with the most dominating victory of the day. Fifth-ranked Lenka Broosova won her sixth consecutive match of the season in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win over No. 23 Aeriel Ellis, while 18th-ranked Nina Secerbegovic took a straight-sets win over Vanja Corovic, 7-5, 6-3, for her 17th straight win.
Junior Taylor Ormond, who has been putting together a streak of her own, came back from down a set to defeat Krista Damico 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 for her seventh consecutive win. Borsanyi, who had suffered two consecutive losses in singles play, took down Caroline Larsson 6-0, 6-3 for the win.
In doubles, the Lady Bears won the point with victories at position No. 1 and No. 3. At the top spot, the eighth-ranked duo of Broosova and Borsanyi beat Corovic and Ellis 8-4, while Secerbegovic and Jelena Stanivuk posted an identical victory, 8-4, over Larsson and Sarah Lancaster.
Baylor will have five days off before taking the court at the Baylor Tennis Center against third-ranked Notre Dame. The first serve is scheduled for noon on Saturday, April 3.
