LOS ANGELES - After coming from behind to win the doubles point, ninth-ranked Baylor put away No. 13 USC winning the first three singles matches on the way to a 5-2 victory on Tuesday in Los Angeles, Calif.

"USC is a great team, and it is never easy to beat them on the road," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "We played really well today, and I am proud of everyone. This was a real team effort, especially from the middle of our lineup."

Baylor jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match after winning the doubles point with a comeback victory at No. 3. At No. 1 doubles, 11th-ranked Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi took down 40th-ranked Valeria Pulido and Maria Sanchez, but the Trojans took a victory at the No. 2 spot. Leaving the doubles point up to the No. 3 spot, Baylor's Nina Secerbegovic and Jelena Stanivuk tied the score at 7-7, then took the next two games to clinch with a 9-7 win. The match also marked just the second dual-match of the season for Stanivuk.

"Our No. 3 doubles really got things started today with the comeback victory," Scrivano said. "I was really proud of the way they competed in that match. Jelena was just a warrior today, and even though she hasn't played a lot this year, she was very impressive in singles and doubles."

With a 1-0 lead, the middle of the Baylor lineup took it on their shoulders and helped put away the match with three straight-sets victories. Karolina Filipiak took down Lyndsay Kinstler at No. 6-2, 6-3, No. 98 Taylor Ormond beat No. 22 Danielle Lao 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3, and No. 53 Csilla Borsanyi defeated No. 91 Pulido 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to clinch the dual-match victory for BU.

"It was great to see the middle of our lineup play so well and help us win this match," Scrivano said. "They have had their ups and downs this season, so for them to win decisively was a real boost. That is something we can build on down the road.

With the victory in hand, Stanivuk retired in her match with a 7-6, 0-2 lead on Sarah Fansler. Stanivuk has been battling injury all season.

No. 41 Nina Secerbegovic went the distance at No. 2 singles to move her dual-match singles record to 11-0 on the season. The sophomore defeated No. 21 Alison Ramos 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-3 at No. 2 singles. At the No. 1 position, Lenka Broosova dropped her first singles match of the season in a rematch with the third-ranked Maria Sanchez. Broosova took the first set 6-2, lost the second set 6-4, then battled to a 7-6 (5) tiebreak in third set.

The Lady Bears (9-2) will be back in action in the Los Angeles area with a match at No. 4 UCLA on Wednesday, March 10. The first serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. CT.
