WACO, Texas - Baylor's second-ranked women's tennis team dodged the rain just long enough to record a 7-0 blanking of visiting Missouri on Friday at the Baylor Tennis Center. The win marked the 39th consecutive regular season Big 12 win and the 49th in a row overall against Big 12 opponents.
With rain on the horizon, the teams played the doubles matches first, finishing the first five courts before a short rainfall halted play on Court No. 6 one game shy of a Baylor win. After a 30-minute break to allow courts to dry, the teams finished the match.
"We came out and played focused tennis today against Missouri," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "It was good to see us keep our focus even through the weather delays. Now, we just have to get prepared for a big match with Colorado on Sunday."
Fifth-ranked Lenka Broosova led the charge in singles for the Lady Bears, losing just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kaitlyn Ritchie for her third consecutive singles victory. Court No. 4 and No. 3 followed suit shortly after, with 106th-ranked Csilla Borsanyi taking a 6-3, 6-1 win at four and 55th-ranked Taylor Ormond winning 6-3, 6-0 at three.
Sophomore Nina Secerbegovic, ranked 18th, got back to her winning ways on Court No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mallory Weber, while Jelena Stanivuk recorded her fourth consecutive win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Andrea Lewis.
At No. 6 singles, Carla Lindlar helped Baylor sweep all six singles matches winning a 7-6 (7-2) tiebreak in the first set, then broke open a 2-2 third set for a 6-2 win.
After the 30-minute rain delay, Scrivano changed his doubles lineups on each court, with never-used combinations at each position. On Court No. 1, Broosova teamed up with Secerbegovic to win easily 8-1. The duo jumped out to a 7-0 lead before dropping their only game.
On Court No. 2 in doubles, Borsanyi and Lindlar battled to a 8-5 victory over Jamie Mera and Sofia Ayala. Baylor jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but MU got back to within 4-3 before the Lady Bears cruised to victory.
The Lady Bears will be back on the court for Baylor's Senior Day against No. 63 Colorado at the Baylor Tennis Center.
