WACO, Texas - Seniors Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi went out in style in their final regular season home match with a 4-0 sweep over Texas-Arlington on Wednesday evening at the Baylor Tennis Center.
"Senior day is one of those days that you don't want to come when you have seniors like this," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "They have meant a lot to this program, but we have a lot of tennis left to reach our ultimate goal."
Broosova, Borsanyi and walk-on senior Hannah Brandt each received special recognition between Baylor's doubles point victory and the singles matches. At the forefront of the doubles victory was the two partnered seniors, Broosova and Borsanyi, taking a 8-2 win. On Court No. 2, Jelena Stanivuk and Nina Secerbegovic cruised past UTA to secure the point with an 8-0 win.
With Baylor in control during the singles matches, two UTA players retired due to injury, giving the Bears a 3-0 lead. In an ending that couldn't have been scripted any better, Baylor's all-time wins leader Broosova closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set victory over Monika Hadvigerova.
"Lenka is playing great tennis," Scrivano said. "The great thing about her is that even if she isn't playing her best, she still finds her range and makes adjustments."
On Court No. 5, BU's Karolina Filipiak earned a victory with a 4-1 first-set lead after UTA's Daiana Negreanu retired due to an injury. Then on Court No. 2, Nina Secerbegovic closed out a 6-0 first set before Katarina Mlcochova retired with an injury.
The Lady Bears will be back on the court this weekend with a trip to Kansas State and Kansas. Baylor will have a chance to close out its sixth consecutive Big 12 title at 12 p.m. on Saturday at KSU, then on Sunday at 11 a.m. at KU.
