TRINITY, Texas - The 50th-ranked Baylor Bears remain in sixth place Saturday after three rounds of the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club. Through 54 holes, Baylor is 12-over (288-287-301=876), seven strokes behind Kansas State (290-283-296=869) for fifth.

No. 3 Oklahoma State (281-284-286=851) - at 13-under - leads No. 7 Texas (282-284-287=853) by two strokes. No. 12 Texas Tech is in third at 9-under (286-285-294=855), while No. 5 Texas A&M is fourth overall at 7-under.

After shooting a 1-under 71 Saturday, Texas Tech's Chris Ward (69-65-71=205) remains in the lead at 11-under, two strokes ahead of Texas' Bobby Hudson at 9-under. Texas A&M's Andrea Pavan is one behind Hudson in third place at 8-under.

"The course played more difficult today than it did during the first two rounds Friday," Baylor head men's golf coach Greg Priest said. "We're still a young team, but I expected them to be further along."

Baylor sophomore Lorenzo Scotto, who entered Saturday in third, dropped to a three-way tie for fifth overall after carding a third-round 5-over 77. Scotto is tied with Texas' Dylan Frittelli and Texas A&M's Jordan Russell at 3-under 213. The Pordenone, Italy, native leads all tournament golfers with a 3-under score on the par-3s at Whispering Pines. Scotto's 13 birdies through 54 holes are tied for third-most among the field's 60 golfers.

"We struggled today. We haven't been able to put a complete round together yet," Priest said. "One of the big positives is that we are getting help from the bottom of the lineup. Ryan (O'Rear) and Jerry (Ruiz) have done a great job thus far."

Freshman Ryan O'Rear moved back to even-par and is tied for 12th overall after a third-round 1-over 73. Joakim Mikkelsen is tied for 31st at 7-over (70-76-77=223), while Jerry Ruiz posted his second straight round of 74. Ruiz is 39th at 10-over (78-74-74=226). Payne Gniewek is tied for 42nd at 13-over (77-75-77=229).

"Lorenzo (Scotto) struggled early, but battled back and hung in there the rest of the way," Priest said. "Today was disappointing, but we have one more round to see if we can put something together Sunday."

The final round of the 2010 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship will begin Sunday at 8 a.m. CDT. Live scoring is available at www.GolfStatResults.com.
