Women's Tennis Media Almanac Coach Scrivano on Twitter

WAMEGO, Kan. - Baylor's second-ranked women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory at Kansas State to clinch at least a share of the Big 12 Conference title on Saturday afternoon at the Wamego Recreation Complex.

"Kansas State has a good team, and they had some challenges for us with so many new players," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "It took a little while to figure out how to play them. But, we executed, focused and made adjustments to be able to get the win."

The Lady Bears (23-2, 10-0) swept the doubles action, then took five out of the six singles matches from Kansas State (6-12, 3-7) to clinch at least a share of the regular season conference title for the sixth year in a row. Baylor has one conference match remaining, at Kansas, for a chance to win the title outright for the sixth consecutive year. With a win at Kansas, the Lady Bears would also secure their third consecutive undefeated Big 12 season.

The win was also the 17th in a row on the season, as well as the 41st consecutive regular season Big 12 win, and 50th consecutive win over a Big 12 opponent including postseason play.

"We definitely want to win (the Big 12 title) outright," Scrivano said. "It's been a tremendous streak, and we take a lot of pride in it. We just have to stay focused on Kansas and take care of business tomorrow."

Baylor got little resistance on the first two doubles courts, with the 10th-ranked duo of Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi winning 8-5, and Nina Secerbegovic and Jelena Stanivuk winning 8-2. The win for Secerbegovic and Stanivuk was the 12th in a row this season. On Court No. 3, Taylor Ormond and Carla Lindlar held off KSU's duo of Petra Chuda and Nina Sertic for a 9-7 victory.

On the singles courts, Baylor dominated, getting straight-set wins on five of the six courts. The 18th-ranked Secerbegovic played a near-perfect match, not dropping a set in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ana Gomez Aleman. Meanwhile, No. 99 Borsanyi nearly equaled feat with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nina Sertic on Court No. 4.

"It was great to see Nina play so well again, she really hit the ball well," Scrivano said. "She is getting back to the fundamentals that helped her put together such a great season. Csilla has had her ups and downs this year, but the last few weeks, she has been playing great tennis. She is probably the most improved player on our team over last couple weeks."

Freshman Carla Lindlar continued her solid rookie season, clinching the victory with the fourth point for Baylor in a 6-2, 6-0 drubbing of Chuda on Court No. 6.

"Carla is starting to understand our system, and I really like the way she is coming along," Scrivano said. "There is going to be a time when we will really count on her in a big match, so it's great to see her playing with confidence."

Baylor's fifth-ranked Broosova took care of business at the top of the Baylor lineup with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over the Wildcats' Antea Huljev. The Lady Bears' fifth singles victory came from Karolina Filipiak on Court No. 5. Filipiak recorded her seventh straight victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Carmen Borau Ramos.

The Lady Bears will conclude their regular season tomorrow at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. With the match, Baylor will be looking to secure the Big 12 regular season title outright. The first serve is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
