WACO, Texas - Baylor (26-19, 6-8) picked up its first conference series win of the season, coming from behind for a 4-1 win against Iowa State (25-23, 3-9) Sunday afternoon at Getterman Stadium. The win was the first for BU on a Senior Day since 2007.
"I am so glad we could get a win for these seniors," head coach Glenn Moore said. "These last few games of the regular season are extremely important, and we are off to a good start."
For the second-straight game, Jordan Vannatta delivered the game winner, coming up with a two-RBI singl ein the fifth to put BU ahead for good. Courtney Nieten added her sixth home run of the season on the next at bat, launching the first pitch over left center.
Iowa State took the lead in the second, as Courtney Wray led off with a double and advanced to third on a single from Sydni Jones. Following a line out to left, Heidi Kidwell hit a sac fly to left field that was dropped by Kathy Shelton, giving BU a force out at second, but scoring the runner from third for a 1-0 lead.
Baylor loaded the bases with one out in the third, but were unable to bring anyone around to score.
That all changed in the fifth, with Sydney Wilson pinch hitting and drawing a walk, followed by a single from KJ Freeland. After both runners moved over to scoring position on a sac bunt by Kayce Walker, Nicole Wesley grounded out to the pitcher for the second out. Vannatta then took a 1-0 pitch through the left side for a pair of RBI, giving the Lady Bears their lead. Baylor was not done, as Nieten delivered a blast to left center for a 4-1 lead that it would not relinquish.
Courtney Repka (18-13) pitched a complete game, giving up six hits, one run and striking out two.
Baylor will hit the road for three-straight games, beginning on Wednesday, April 28 at Texas A&M starting at 6:30 p.m.
