WACO, Texas - Baylor's second-ranked women's tennis team dominated singles play, taking all six points on their way to a 6-1 win over sixth-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday at the Baylor Tennis Center.

"Notre Dame is a team that we have a tremendous amount of respect for," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "They played some great doubles, and thankfully our team knows how to handle that situation (being down 1-0). I'm proud of the way we refocused and played singles today."

After dropping the doubles point, losing two out of the three matches, the Lady Bears (16-2) showed why they are one of the top teams in the country. Baylor ripped off four quick singles points over Notre Dame (15-3) in straight-sets to put the match away.

Sixth-ranked Lenka Broosova set the tone at the No. 1 position, dropping just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 drubbing of 18th-ranked Kristy Frilling. After that, the rest of the Lady Bears followed suit with straight-set wins on four of the next five points.

Karolina Filipiak, quietly having a strong season, grabbed her eighth win in the last 10 matches with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 6 position. At No. 4, 97th-ranked Csilla Borsanyi dispatched of the Irish's Cosmina Ciobanu and her 11-match win streak with a 6-2, 6-1 win.

"I love the way Karo bounced back from a tough loss at Texas and played solid tennis today," Scrivano said. "We had another great performance from Lenka today, and for Csilla, that was one of her best singles performances this season. "

At No. 5, junior Jelena Stanivuk, who has been in and out of the lineup all season battling injuries, took a big step in getting back to form with a dominating 6-2, 6-4 win over Kristen Rafael. Stanivuk's point officially marked the win for BU.

With the match clinched, the Lady Bears had two tight battles going on at positions No. 2 and No. 3 with 18th-ranked Nina Secerbegovic and 59th-ranked Taylor Ormond. Notre Dame's Shannon Mathews took Secerbegovic into a third-set super tiebreaker, threatening the sophomore's 17-match win streak. Secerbegovic prevailed in the third, winning the tiebreaker point 10-2 for a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (2) win to keep her dual-match singles play perfect at 18-0.

"I was pleased to see Jele play such a good match from start to finish," Scrivano said. "She's been through so much this season with injuries and it's great to see her getting back on track. As usual Nina played exceptional in singles and doubles. She's maturing with every match she plays and it's exciting to watch."

Ormond, on the final court, took the first set by a score of 6-4 over 113th-ranked Chrissie McGaffigan, then fought back from a 3-2 deficit in the second set to take the set 7-6. The win also brought her singles win streak to eight matches.

In doubles play, Secerbegovic and Stanivuk made easy work of Ciobanu and Mathews with an 8-1 win, but the Irish handled the Lady Bears at No. 1 and No. 3. The eighth-ranked duo of Frilling and Kali Krisik beat Baylor's 12th-ranked pair of Broosova and Borsanyi 8-6 to snap a four-match win streak. On the final doubles court, McGaffigan and Rafael beat Ormond and Carla Lindlar 8-5.

The Lady Bears will be back in action on Friday against another one of the nation's best teams in fourth-ranked Northwestern at the Baylor Tennis Center. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
