Complete Big 12 release
WACO, Texas - Senior Lenka Broosova was named the unanimous Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Year, and was one of four Baylor singles players named all-Big 12 in a vote by the league coaches, conference officials announced on Wednesday.
Broosova, who also earned her fourth consecutive all-Big 12 singles and third consecutive all-Big 12 doubles honor, became just the second player in BU history to win the Player of the Year award. Zuzana Zemenova won the award four consecutive times from 2005-08. Broosova, ranked fifth in the latest ITA singles rankings, has an overall record of 30-6 on the season, including a 23-2 mark in dual-match play and a flawless 11-0 mark in Big 12 play. A native of Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, she also had a perfect 10-0 mark in Big 12 doubles play with partner Csilla Borsanyi. The 11th-ranked duo combined for a 23-4 record on the season.
Joining Broosova on the all-conference singles team were Taylor Ormond, Csilla Borsanyi and Nina Secerbegovic. Ormond, ranked 69th, earned her third consecutive all-league singles honor with an overall record of 21-9, including a 16-6 mark in dual-match play and an 8-2 record in league play.
Borsanyi, who also earned all-Big 12 doubles honors for the second consecutive season, is currently riding a 12-match win streak to a 26-10 overall mark and a 9-2 record in Big 12 play. Borsanyi teamed with Broosova for their 10-0 record in league play and 23-4 record overall in doubles. Borsanyi was also named the Big 12 Championship Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row.
Secerbegovic, a sophomore, was Baylor's most dominant singles player on the season, leading the team with 36 wins against just four losses. Ranked 20th, Secerbegovic opened dual-match play with 18 consecutive wins. She went 10-1 in league play and is currently on an eight-match wins streak.
Under head coach Joey Scrivano, who arrived in 2003, Baylor has now had 19 singles players and nine doubles tandems earn all-Big 12 honors.
The Lady Bears will be back in action in the first round of the NCAA Championship against Northwestern State (La.) at the Baylor Tennis Center. The first serve will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 14. The winner of the match will face the winner of the Tulsa/North Texas match on Saturday at 3 p.m. for a chance to go to Athens, Ga., for the Round of 16.
