WACO, Texas - Head cross country coach Todd Harbour announced Baylor's 2010 season schedule on Thursday, which includes the season-opening Bear Twilight and the NCAA South Central Regional, both hosted by BU in Waco, Texas.
"We have put together a really good schedule and are excited to get the season going," Harbour said. "I know (the student-athletes) have put in a good summer and they are ready to work hard to put in a good year."
The Bears will kick off the season with back-to-back meets, hosting the Bear Twilight Invitational at the Baylor intramural fields on Friday, Sept. 3, then traveling to the Texas A&M Invitational one week later on Friday, Sept. 10.
After a weekend off, Baylor will travel to one of the biggest cross country meets in the nation when they attend the 25th Annual Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 25 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Griak consists of three men's collegiate races and three women's collegiate races.
"The Griak is always a good meet," Harbour said. "There is always a lot of great teams, that will be a big one."
The next meet for the Bears comes three weeks later, where a split squad will compete at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Indiana, and the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. Both meets are set for Saturday Oct. 16.
Baylor will then enter the bulk of their postseason schedule with the Big 12 Conference Championships in Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday Oct. 30. After the conference meet, Baylor will return to Waco for the NCAA South Central Regional at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course on Saturday, Nov. 13.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships take place 10 days later in Terre Haute, Ind. The Baylor women's team will be looking for their eighth consecutive championships appearance after earning a berth each of the last seven seasons.
In 2009, the Baylor women placed seventh at the Big 12 meet, second at the regional meet and 28th at the NCAA meet. Meanwhile, the BU men were 11th at the Big 12 meet and then placed seventh at the regional meet.
