WACO, Texas - Baylor (2-0-0) used seven goals from six different players, including six in the second half en route to a 7-0 win over McNeese State (0-2-0) Sunday afternoon at Betty Lou Mays Field. The win marks the first 2-0 start for the Bears since 2007.
"This offensive output was a really good boost for this team," head coach Marci Jobson said. "You could see the confidence grow with each goal, and that's very important as we move forward."
Sophomore Hanna Gilmore led the way with two goals and an assist, while sophomore Lisa Sliwinski added a pair of assists and freshmen Selby Polley and Kat Ludlow each had a goal and an assist.
The Bears took 30 shots on the afternoon, the most for BU since blasting 38 shots against Prairie View A&M on Sept. 7, 2008.
Baylor peppered the Cowgirl goal with nine shots until a cross from Polley found junior Christine Clark's head in the 33rd minute for the first and only goal of the half. Despite 15 shots in the opening half, the Bears held just a 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
BU got it going in the second half, as Dana Larsen put in an open rebound in the 54th minute for a 2-0 lead.
Gilmore got her first goal after following up on her first shot and putting it into the open net for a 3-0 lead.
Gilmore added her second just two minutes later when she buried one in the back of the net off an assist from Sliwinski for the 4-0 advantage.
Baylor made it 5-0 in the 70th minute, as Polley got her first career goal off an assist from Ludlow, who got her first goal of the season on a header after a great cross from Allie Moran in the 74th minute, making it 6-0.
The Bears added their final goal in the 75th minute, as Michelle Hagen slid for a cross from Karlee Summey and nudged it in the back of the net for the 7-0 rout.
Baylor outshot McNeese State 30-2, as the both Cowgirls' shots came in the second half.
The Bears will be back in action on Friday, Aug. 27 to take on Houston Baptist at 7:00 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Field.
