WACO, Texas - Baylor sophomore quarterback Robert Griffin III was named to two additional national award watch lists Monday. The Maxwell Football Club announced that Griffin is among 60 players on the watch list for the 74th annual Maxwell Award, and the Allstate Sugar Bowl named Griffin to the Manning Award Watch List.
Griffin has now been listed on three national football award watch lists. He was listed among 30 quarterbacks on the Davey O'Brien Award Watch List that was announced July 14.
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the nation's most outstanding collegiate football player since 1937. It is named in honor of sportswriter Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. The Sugar Bowl has been using social media to reveal one member of its watch list every day since July 13, and Griffin's addition brings the list to 26 players.
Ten finalists for the Manning Award will be announced Nov. 29, and the winner will be announced Jan. 19. Five of the six previous winners of the award went on to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be revealed Nov. 8, and the field will be narrowed to three finalists two weeks later. The Maxwell Award winner will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show Dec. 9.
Griffin, a native of Copperas Cove, Texas, enters his third season with the Baylor football program in 2010. A former Freshman All-America selection in 2008, Griffin is coming off a sophomore season cut short by a knee injury in his third game, but a medical hardship waiver was granted, leaving him with three seasons of eligibility. The dual-threat quarterback has thrown for 2,572 yards and run for 920 yards in 15 career games in addition to earning All-America status in track and field in 2008.
