WACO - The Baylor soccer team (5-1-1) battled New Mexico (4-0-3) to a scoreless draw in 110 minutes of play on Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field. The shutout marked the sixth for the Bears on the season, as BU has yet to allow a goal at home.

Junior goalkeeper, Courtney Seelhorst made three big saves on the evening, leading the Baylor defense to the shutout.

"I am really proud of the way our kids fought," head coach Marci Jobson said. "New Mexico is a tough team, and we had our chances. Courtney was fabulous in goal tonight. She really is exuding a lot of confidence and it shows."

Although Baylor held the 6-3 advantage in shots on goal, the two teams were evenly matched in shots at 12 apiece.

The Bears peppered the Lobos' net with four shots on goal in the first half. Baylor's best chance of the opening stanza came in the 26th minute off a corner kick from Christine Clark, as Lindsey Johnson leapt above the UNM defenders for a header that was saved by Kelli Cornell.

With shots even at five each, the two teams headed into halftime scoreless.

Still tied at zero in the second half, the Bears' best chance of the game occurred in the 70th minute as a corner from Karlee Summey was drilled into the box where Staz Salinas flew in with a header that was blocked at the line and cleared away.

Just three minutes later, New Mexico's Jordan Craig fired a shot that was saved by Seelhorst, keeping the game knotted at zero.

With the game still scoreless at the end of regulation, the two teams battled into the first overtime with Jennifer Williams blasting the only shot of the period, only to see Seelhorst thwart another New Mexico opportunity.

Williams tried to strike again in the 102nd minute, but Seelhorst was there to make another save and keep the game scoreless the rest of the way.

The Bears' defense was stellar all night, driving away 11 New Mexico corner kicks, while Baylor had a season high of seven.

The Bears will hit the road for its next game on Friday, Sept. 17 at Sam Houston State with kickoff beginning at 7:00 p.m.
