HOUSTON - The Baylor women's cross country team turned in a fifth-place team finish at the Joshua F. Cooper Memorial Rice Invitational on Friday evening in Houston, Texas.
The Bears scored 120 team points, while Rice won the women's team title with 20 points. Baylor placed four runners in the top 40.
Junior newcomer Samantha Allen led the way for Baylor with a 20th place finish, covering the 4,100-meter course in 15:51. Freshman Ruby Tellez came in next for BU in 22nd place with a time of 15:56.
Charlotte Peeters and Kelsey Wallour finished in 37th and 38th place, respectively. Peeters covered the course in 16:32, while Wallour was one second back at 16:33. Lizzy Whitney rounded out the Baylor top five in 43rd place with a time of 16:57.
The men's and women's cross country teams will both be back on the course at the 25th Annual Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 25 in Minneapolis, Minn. One of the biggest cross country meets in the nation, the Griak will begin at 12:20 p.m. for Baylor.
