WACO, Texas - The Baylor football team will host Iowa State, Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma in year one of the new-look Big 12 Conference, according to the 2011 schedule released today by the league office.
With Nebraska's departure to the Big Ten and Colorado's move to the Pac-10 effective with the 2011-12 academic year, the Big 12 has approved football schedules for 2011 and beyond that feature nine league games and no conference championship contest. As a result, all Big 12 teams will play one less non-conference game beginning next fall.
After opening Big 12 play Oct. 1 at Kansas State, the 2011 Bears will host Iowa State (Oct. 8), travel to Texas A&M for the 108th Battle of the Brazos before closing the month with a home game against Texas (Oct. 22) and a road match-up at Oklahoma State (Oct. 29).
November 2011 will see Baylor host Missouri on Nov. 5, followed by a road game at Kansas (Nov. 12), before closing with a home contest against Oklahoma (Nov. 19). The site of the Nov. 26 Texas Tech game will be determined in the near future.
Baylor and Texas Tech have played the last two years in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, with the 2009 tilt being played at Cowboys Stadium and this year's contest scheduled for Oct. 9 at the historic Cotton Bowl during the State Fair of Texas. School officials will meet following next month's game to decide if future BU-TT games will return to campus or be played in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, however, future scheduling models allow both teams to play one neutral site league game and still host four Big 12 contests on their respective campuses.
In 2012, the Bears' league schedule will be played in the same order as 2011, however, the sites are reversed with Kansas State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Kansas visiting Waco. Baylor's league road trips in 2012 and future even years will be to Iowa State, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.
It is important to note that game dates are still subject to change to accommodate television and other requests, according to Big 12 officials.
In order to accommodate a nine-game conference schedule, Baylor's 2011 non-conference schedule has also been altered, and school officials are working to adjust future non-conference schedules, too. The Bears will open next season with a Sept. 3 home game against TCU, then after a probable open date on Sept. 10, host Stephen F. Austin State on Sept. 17 and Rice on Sept. 24.
Future Baylor Parents' Weekend and Homecoming dates will be established at a later date.
