WACO, Texas- Baylor's women's tennis team completed a solid first day, advancing two singles and two doubles tandems to the third round of the HEB Baylor Invitational on Friday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Fifth-seeded Jordaan Sanford put together most impressive win of the day, not dropping a single game in a straight-set, second-round win, while third-seeded Diana Nakic came back from a set down to advance. Both of Baylor's doubles combinations in the field advanced to the third round with a first-round bye and a second round win.

"I feel like we are making progress, and overall I feel like we are moving in the right direction," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "I was happy with the way we came out and competed today. I'm looking forward to having another day in those pressure situations against good competition. Every time on the court is another opportunity to improve."

Sanford, ranked 97th in the nation, received a first-round bye, then defeated TCU's Kelsey Sundaram 6-0, 6-0, to advance to the Round of 16. Nakic, meanwhile, fell down a set in a tiebreaker, but came back to post 6-4, 6-4 in the second and third to join Sanford in the next round.

In doubles, Sanford teamed with freshman Nicole Kosakowski as the third seed in the tournament. The duo posted a solid 8-2 win over TCU's Melanie Barnes and Karla Martinez, earning a spot in the Round of 16. They will be joined by Nakic and freshman Megan Horter, who defeated Tarleton State's Brittni Fausett and Alicia Perez 8-4.

Kosakowski and Horter each were eliminated from the singles main draw on the day. Kosakowski posted a first-round win over SMU's Kris Roberts 6-1, 6-0, but fell to Meghan Blevins of Oklahoma State 7-5, 7-5. Horter suffered a first-round loss in three sets to UT-Arlington's Giada Dortona 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. With the first-round loss, Horter will be placed in the consolation draw.

Action will continue with Round of 16 play in both singles and doubles on Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center. The first singles matches are slated for 9 a.m., while doubles will begin at 3:30 p.m.
