ITA/Riviera Information

LOS ANGELES
- Sophomore transfer Jordaan Sanford opened with a win, but fell in the second round of prequalifying at the ITA/Riviera Women's All-American Championships on Saturday in Los Angeles, Calif.

Sanford, playing in her first two matches in a Baylor uniform, needed three sets for her opening-round victory over San Diego State's Julia Wais. Sanford took the first set 6-2, but Wais came back with a 7-5 second-set to stay alive. Sanford then took control in third, breaking Wais for a 6-1 win.

In the second round, Sanford ran into Virginia's Li Xi, who earned her second straight-set victory of the day. Xi defeated Sanford 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the third round of prequalifying.

While Sanford's run in singles comes to a close for the tournament, she will be joined by freshman Nicole Kosakowski in qualifying round doubles on Monday at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Senior Diana Nakic will begin singles play in the qualifying, while seniors Sona Novakova and Nina Secerbegovic will see action in singles and doubles when the Main Draw starts on Wednesday.
