ROLLING HILLS, Calif.- Baylor sophomore Jordaan Sanford battled through a three-set win to advance to the quarterfinals at the Jack Kramer Club Invitational on Friday in Rolling Hills, Calif.
"Jordaan did a great job of going out there and working on her game to improve," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "I am really proud of her effort. Megan (Horter) lost a tough match today, but she'll have another chance to go out there tomorrow and get a win."
Playing near her hometown of Diamond Bar, Calif., Sanford came from behind to take a thrilling three-set victory. After dropping the first set 3-6 to UCLA's Skylar Morton, the fourth-seeded and 97th-ranked Sanford, won a 7-6 (5) tiebreak in the second. In the third-set, super-tiebreaker, Sanford out-dueled Morton 10-8 to advance to the quarterfinal.
Horter, on the other hand didn't fare as well in singles play, falling in a three-set, super-tiebreaker match to Loyola Marymount's Miya Jin. Horter was able to take the opening set, 6-4, but Jin battled back to take the second set by the same 6-4 score. In the super-tiebreaker, Jin controlled the action to win 10-4.
In the doubles, the pair faced a tough opponent in UCLA's duo of Carling Seguso and Caitlin Ray and fell 8-6 in a tight finish.
Baylor's Sanford and Horter will continue play at the Jack Kramer Club Invitational on Saturday in Rolling Hills, Calif.
