Soccer Hosts Texas State In NCAA Opener

The Baylor soccer team (14-3-3) will host Southland Conference tournament champion Texas State (14-5-1) in NCAA Championship opening round action Saturday at 6 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Field.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children up to age 17, while all Baylor students will get in free with their student ID. Purchase tickets by calling 254-710-1000 or by logging on to baylorbears.com.

Baylor makes its third NCAA appearance and first since 1999. The Bears are 0-2 all-time in the NCAA Championship and 0-1 at home. Baylor's last appearance in the NCAA's was a 5-4 loss to Northwestern on Nov. 15, 1999 in Waco.
Saturday's match will be the second meeting this season between the two teams, with the Bears taking a 2-0 win in Waco on Sept. 9. Baylor used second-half goals from Natalie Huggins and Hanna Gilmore for the win after outshooting the Bobcats 19-2.
Texas State earned its fifth NCAA Tournament berth in program history after defeating Stephen F. Austin, 1-0, for the Southland Conference Championship and automatic berth. Its the fifth overall bid to the Championship for the Bobcats and first since 2008.
Baylor is 4-3 against teams in the 2011 tournament field. The Bears have registered wins against Texas, Kansas, Louisville and Texas State with losses against No. 3 regional seed Texas A&M, Kentucky and No. 2 regional seed Oklahoma State.
The winner of the Baylor/Texas State game will play the winner of North Carolina (11-5-1) and William & Mary (17-2-2) on Friday, Nov. 18 in the Gainesville, Fla. Regional.
