TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Baylor senior receiver Kendall Wright has been selected as one of 10 semifinalists for the 2011 Biletnikoff Award, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc. announced Monday.
The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the nation's top receiver. Wright is one of three semifinalists from the Big 12 Conference, joining Oklahoma's Ryan Broyles and Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon.
Wright, a native of Pittsburg, Texas, has caught a school-record 81 passes for 1,073 yards and nine touchdowns this season. His 1,073 receiving yards are 67 shy of the Baylor single-season record held by Reggie Newhoure (1,140 in 2002), and his nine touchdowns are the second-most ever in a single season at Baylor.
He ranks sixth nationally in both receiving yards per game (119.22) and receptions per game (9.0). Wright joins Broyles and Blackmon as the only Big 12 receivers with six 100-yard games this season.
Wright accounts for more than 33 percent of Baylor's receiving yards and more than 35 percent of its receptions on the season. In fact, Wright's 81 receptions equal the combined total of the next two Bears on the receptions list.
Wright owns or shares nine school records, including career yards (3,414), receptions (275), touchdowns (25) and 100-yard games (16). He also broke the school's single-game receiving yards record with 201 at Kansas State on Oct. 1, and he holds three of the program's top-5 single-season receptions totals.
Additionally, Wright has caught at least one pass in all 46 games of his career, which is the third-longest streak nationally among active players. He's had at least seven receptions and 67 yards in all nine games this season.
The winner of the Biletnikoff Award will be determined in voting Nov. 16-20, and the award will be presented on Dec. 8 as part of The Home Depot College Football Awards live on ESPN.
22nd-ranked Baylor returns to action Saturday when it hosts No. 5 Oklahoma at 7 p.m. CST at Floyd Casey Stadium. The game will be televised live nationally on ABC and tickets can be purchased online at www.mygreenandgold.com/football/, by calling 254-710-1000 or at the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office at the Ferrell Center.
