NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III has been selected as one of 15 semifinalists for the 2011 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Wednesday.

RG3 is one of nine quarterbacks and one of four players from the Big 12 Conference among the semifinalists. He's joined by Oklahoma's Landry Jones and Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon and Brandon Weeden as representatives from the Big 12.

Griffin III, a junior from Copperas Cove, Texas, has now been named a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Wuerffel Award, and a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award, the Maxwell Award and the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.

Through the season's first nine games, RG3 ranks second nationally in total offense (396.78) and third in pass efficiency (188.58). He tied his 46th school record in Saturday's win at Kansas when he threw a touchdown pass in his ninth consecutive game in a season and 11th consecutive game overall.

RG3 has led Baylor to a No. 22 national ranking and its most weeks in the AP Top 25 poll since 1991. He is one of four players in FBS history with more than 9,000 career passing yards and more than 2,000 career rushing yards.

Griffin III received his undergraduate degree in political science in December and is currently enrolled in graduate school. He was recently named first-team Capital One Academic All-District VII for the second consecutive season.

The fourth-oldest football award in the nation, the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award is voted on by the Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches. The list of semifinalists will be trimmed to five finalists on Nov. 30, and the award will be presented live on Dec. 8 during ESPN SportsCenter. The winner will receive his trophy at the Foundation's annual national awards banquet on Jan. 14 at Yale University Commons in New Haven.

No. 22 Baylor returns to action this weekend when the Bears host No. 5 Oklahoma at 7 p.m. CST Saturday at Floyd Casey Stadium. The game will be televised live nationally on ABC, and tickets can be purchased online at www.mygreenandgold.com/football/, by calling 254-710-1000 or at the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office at the Ferrell Center.
