RUSTON, La. - The Baylor softball team (11-0) notched a pair of victories and is off to the best start in program history after a doubleheader sweep of Louisiana Tech on Tuesday afternoon in Ruston, La. The Lady Bears won game one, 11-0 (5) and 9-0 (6) in game two. The pitching staff combined to allow just three hits in the doubleheader, while Dani Leal went 4-for-7 with five RBI.

"We looked great out there today," head coach Glenn Moore said. "Our pitchers and hitters were tremendous and it was a total team effort. We can't let up because we have a challenging schedule ahead, but I am proud of this team's performance."

GAME ONE
Baylor 11, Louisiana Tech 0

Baylor blasted four home runs en route to an 11-0 win over Louisiana Tech in game one. The four homers were the most since hitting four at New Mexico on March 6, 2010.

Whitney Canion and Sydney Wilson each recorded their first career home runs, while Dani Leal registered her fifth of the season and Shelbi Redfearn hit her second.

Canion (5-0) picked up with win, throwing 4.0 innings, allowing one hit, walking three and striking out seven.

Baylor got on the board in the second, as Holly Holl drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on a single by Canion. With Canion taking off for third, the throw to second was high, allowing Holl to cross the plate with two outs for a 1-0 lead.

Leal struck her fifth homer of the season in the third, hooking it just around the right field foul pole for the solo shot for a 2-0 advantage.

The Lady Bears busted the game open in the fourth, as Shelbi Redfearn singled to begin the inning, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. Clare Hosack then singled off the pitcher's glove for an RBI and a 3-0 lead. Three-straight walks drove in a run with Sydney Wilson drawing an RBI, and Leal struck again, this time with a two-run single to right center for a 6-0 lead.

Three more home runs left the park in the fifth, as Redfearn hit her second career homer and Canion hit the first of her career, a two-run shot. With two outs, Wilson blasted the first homer of her career over the left center wall for the 11-0 advantage.

GAME TWO
Baylor 9, Louisiana Tech 0

Baylor put together 10 hits combined with a complete-game shutout from Courtney Repka (4-0) for a 9-0 (6) win over the Lady Techsters in game two. Repka went 6.0 innings, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out two in the win.

The Lady Bears got out to another lead in the first with Kathy Shelton leading off with a single to center. With one out and Shelton at second, Megan Turk grounded up the middle, only to see the second baseman make a great diving play to get Leal at first, allowing Shelton to score from second for the 1-0 lead.

Baylor extended its lead in the third, on a two-out RBI up the middle to score Shelton for a 2-0 advantage.

Another run crossed for BU in the fourth, as a bases loaded walk led to another RBI for Wilson, giving Baylor is 3-0 lead.

Baylor put the game away in the sixth, with back-to-back singles from Redfearn and Holl. A fielder's choice put Redfearn at third, and on a steal from Chelsea Kovich at second, the throw down to third got by the third baseman, allowing Redfearn to score. Jordan Vannatta recorded a sac fly to score Kovich from third for a 5-0 lead, and Walker came to the plate and drove in a run with the second following on an error. Ahead 7-0, Leal and Redfearn notched back-to-back RBI-singles for the 9-0 lead.

Repka carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before an infield single broke it up.

Baylor will host the QTI Powers Invitational on Feb 25-27 beginning with Sam Houston State at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
