WACO, Texas -- Baylor's tentative 2011 football schedule will include a game in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex between the Bears and Texas Tech for the third straight season, head coach Art Briles announced Wednesday. The schools will play at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, at a date to be determined by the Big 12 Conference and its television partners.
"Playing this game in Cowboys Stadium is great for our players, our university and our fans," Briles said. "There isn't a better football stadium in America."
The 2011 game, in which Baylor is designated the home team, is the third consecutive neutral-site meeting between the schools following a 2009 contest at Cowboys Stadium and a 2010 game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The two previous meetings were both decided by seven points, Texas Tech winning 20-13 in 2009 and 45-38 in 2010.
"We had a great crowd up there last time (in 2009), it was a bowl-like atmosphere and our players really look forward to playing there."
Baylor takes the field in preparation for the 2011 season Monday, Feb. 28, when it opens its spring drills on the Highers Complex practice fields. Workouts during the 15-practice spring begin at 3:30 p.m. and are open to the public.
