LOS ANGELES- In a rematch of a Baylor win earlier this season, the ninth-ranked Lady Bears (8-2) took a 6-1 loss at No. 10 UCLA (11-4) on Thursday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

"UCLA was just too good today," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "We didn't do a good job of matching their intensity and focus. Nina was our big bright spot today. She did a lot of good things today in both singles and doubles. I'm really looking forward to getting back to the practice court, regrouping and taking on the Miami Hurricanes on Monday."

The doubles point was over quickly for the Lady Bears before they got a victory on the board. UCLA's Maya Johansson and Pamela Montez won 8-1 over Karolina Filipiak and Taylor Ormond on Court 3, while Noelle Hickey and McCall Jones won 8-3 over Diana Nakic and Sona Novakova on Court 2.

Baylor did manage to scratch out a high-quality win on Court 1 in doubles with Nina Secerbegovic and Jelena Stanivuk. The Baylor duo was able to get the break-point they needed to defeat the 14th-ranked pair of Courtney Dolehide and Andrea Remynse.

The Bruins, however, turned away any momentum Baylor could build from the doubles win by taking two quick singles victories for a 3-0 lead. Johansson lost just one game on her way to a straight-set win over Ormond, while Hickey lost just three games in defeating Nakic in two sets.

All four of the remaining singles matches went into the third set, leaving the outcome of the match still somewhat in doubt due to Baylor's proven ability to come back. But, the Bruins got a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win by Jones over Novakova on Court 1 for the clinching point.

After UCLA's Dolehide earned a victory over BU's 70th-ranked Filipiak, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, the Lady Bears earned their lone point from Secerbegovic. The 51st-ranked junior dropped the first set to No. 64 Remynse, but lost just three games the rest of the way for the 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win.

Meanwhile, BU's 94th-ranked Stanivuk was in a battle with Montez on Court 5. The Baylor senior won a first-set tiebreak 7-6 (8-6), but dropped the second set 7-5. With the team victory already decided, the two squared off in a super tiebreaker, which Montez came out with a 10-8 win.

With the loss, the Lady Bears finish the three-match roadtrip with a 2-1 record, and will return home for the next five matches. The homestand starts with No. 3 Miami on Monday, March 14, at noon.
