Recap | Box Score
Head Coach Steve Smith On the offense:
"I thought we took some good at-bats. The game is an interesting game. (Max) Muncy, for example, couldn't hit balls any harder for outs. The guys didn't really do much yesterday, but they got something going today. Chris Slater continues to see the ball very well. We had to play a little bit today. This was not a pretty day from a starting pitching standpoint. Give (Louisiana Tech) some credit. They came to play today as well. We responded and got the guys out of the bullpen to do a good job."
On differences from yesterday's game:
"We competed hard. They're not all going to be one-hit shutouts. There are a lot of ways you have to win. You just have to keep battling and pressing on and that's what we did today."
On the performance of the bullpen:
"For Dillon (Newman) to come in with no outs and the bases loaded, freshman, hadn't pitched in a week, he does a pretty good job. Crayton (Bare) has just improved so much from a year ago. He had a great summer and has just continued on. We haven't had many left-handers that can come out of the bullpen and really do what he's been able to do so far. So it's really encouraging to see what he's been able to do as well as Dillon."
Senior OF Chris Slater On his two RBI double:
"I hit it pretty well and I think whoever was running on first base kind of shielded the first baseman from getting a good read on it. I put a good swing on it and thankfully it got through."
On his performance at the plate this week:
"I'm seeing the ball very well. I'm just going through a lot of confidence. I think when things are going well, everything is kind of going well. Even balls that I'm not hitting super well are finding holes and one good thing has been leading to another."
Freshman RHP Dillon Newman On coming in during a tough situation:
"Bases loaded and no outs is never the best situation to come in to. When they called my number I knew I had to come out there and put a zero on the board. I couldn't do that when I first came out, but after that I felt like I did a pretty good job."
On how he felt on the mound today:
"I felt pretty good. I felt like I was pounding the zone and that was pretty much what I was trying to do. Just throw strike after strike and not throw any walks."
