WACO - Sophomore Kathy Shelton went 4-for-4 with two runs, two stolen bases and one RBI, leading No. 15 Baylor to a 5-0 win over Texas Arlington (16-11) on Tuesday night at Getterman Stadium. The win was the seventh in the last eight games for the Lady Bears.
Courtney Repka (7-1) earned the win, throwing 5.0 innings, allowing four hits and striking out three. Liz Paul finished the game with three strikeouts and one walk in the final two innings.
Baylor's first three batters combined for nine of the team's 12 hits, as Shelton tied a season and career high with four hits, Kayce Walker had two and Megan Turk collected three.
The Lady Bears scored a pair in the bottom of the first off a pair of RBI from Holly Holl and KJ Freeland. Shelton led off with a single and advanced to second on a fielder's choice and a bad throw from the pitcher. A single from Turk that loaded the bases, and with one out, Holl drilled a single to right for the first run of the game. Freeland then singled up the middle to score Walker, making it 2-0.
Baylor added two more in the second, as Sydney Wilson walked to lead off the inning and stole second. A bunt single from Shelton sent Wilson to third, and after Shelton stole second, Walker delivered a two-RBI single to right for a 4-0 lead.
The Lady Bears added one more in the third, with Shelton singling home Kelsi Kettler, who doubled to right center, for the 5-0 lead.
Repka retired 11 of the first 12 batters she faced before allowing her first hit with two outs in the fourth.
Baylor will hit the road for a doubleheader at North Texas (12-10) Wednesday beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Denton to wrap up its 11 games in 13 days.
