WACO, Texas - Baylor's 10th-ranked women's tennis team (10-3) had its 57-match Big 12 win streak broken by No. 53 Kansas State (10-1) in a 4-3 win by the Wildcats on Friday night at the Baylor Tennis Center. The streak included 43 consecutive Big 12 regular season matches, dating back to a loss at Colorado on March 4, 2007.

The match featured a full evening of tiebreakers, coming right down to the final set of the seventh match before it was decided. On Court 6, KSU's Nina Sertic outlasted Baylor's Abby Stainback in three sets to clinch the win for the Wildcats. The loss marked the first Big 12 home loss for Baylor since a 6-1 defeat to Texas A&M on April 8, 2004.

"We have to give a lot of credit to K-State for coming in here and getting the win," head coach Joey Scrivano. "They played a great match and deserved to win."

In doubles, Kansas State battled right down to the wire to take the point away from the Lady Bears for the 1-0 lead. After Baylor's 42nd-ranked duo of Nina Secerbegovic and Sona Novakova to a dominating 8-2 victory on Court 1, the Wildcats answered back with a win on Court 2 and forced a tiebreak on Court 3.

The win came from Nina Sertic and Petra Niedermayerova by a score of 8-6 over BU's Diana Nakic and Taylor Ormond. Meanwhile, on Court 3, Baylor's duo of Cristina Danaila and Jelena Stanivuk had swung the match back their way with a break to take a 7-5 lead. However, KSU's Ana Gomez Aleman and Petra Chuda battled back to force the tiebreak at 8-8. The Wildcat pair then took two points in a row for the 9-7 win to clinch the point.

Down 1-0, Baylor earned victories on three of the first four courts to finish. No. 119 Stanivuk took the win in convincing fashion on Court 4 over Gomez Aleman, 6-3, 6-2, while Secerbegovic, ranked 34th, won easily over Bonacic on Court 2, 6-4, 6-1. After Baylor's 10th-ranked Sona Novakova fell 6-3, 6-4, to Niedermayerova, the 44th-ranked Nakic defeated KSU's Antea Huljev 6-4, 6-3.

Now up 3-2, the teams had two tight matches left on Courts 5 and 6. On Court 5, BU's Danaila and KSU's Chuda split the first two sets, each by a score of 6-3. In the third, they stayed on-serve until 4-4, when Chuda was able to break serve and then serve the match out to win 6-4.

That left the match to the third set on Court 6 between Stainback and Sertic. The two split two tight sets, before Sertic was able to get control in the third set with two service breaks to complete the win 6-4.

Baylor will be back in action in the fourth of their five-match homestand when they host the University of Kansas at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 20 at the Baylor Tennis Center.
