LAWRENCE, Kan. - Brandon Macias drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give Kansas a 4-3 walk-off win over Baylor on Saturday afternoon at Hoglund Ballpark.

The loss was Baylor's (16-12, 3-5 Big 12) fourth straight, while Kansas (12-14, 4-4 Big 12) clinched the series win. Baylor had won 11 of the previous 12 series against the Jayhawks in Big 12 Conference play.

"Anytime you lose it is tough, so it's not anymore tough than yesterday or last week," head coach Steve Smith said. "(There are) a lot of what-ifs."

Max Garner took the loss after hitting Kaiana Eldredge with a pitch leading off the bottom of the ninth. Eldridge moved up to second base on a sacrifice bunt, and after a walk, both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch from reliever Jon Ringenberg.

Ringenberg then intentionally walked Jimmy Waters to load the bases with one out. He got Jake Marasco to flyout to shallow center field for the second out, and got ahead of Macias 1-2 before throwing three straight balls.

Garner (1-1) allowed one run on one hit with two walks in 2.2 innings of relief. Baylor starter Josh Turley scattered nine hits and allowed three runs with one walk and five strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

"I thought Josh (Turley) pitched a lot better than the line will show," Smith said. "Their guy (Tanner Poppe) was effective, and it looked like everybody pitched pretty well today."

Kansas reliever Wally Marciel (4-2) picked up the win by retiring the only batter he faced. He struck out Max Muncy for the third out in the top of the ninth.

Kansas took an early lead when Alex DeLeon hit a solo homer against Turley with two outs in the second, but the Bears tied the game in their next at-bat. Steve DalPorto singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and then Chris Slater gave the Bears runners on the corners with an infield single.

Slater stole second base, and DalPorto came home to score when DeLeon's throw down to second got away from Macias.

The Jayhawks went back in front on Casey Lytle's two-out RBI double in the fifth, but the Bears again answered in their next trip to the plate, this time with Josh Ludy's two-run double to erase the deficit and give Baylor a 3-2 lead.

Chris Manship singled in a run with two outs in the sixth to tie the game and end Turley's day. Garner came out of the bullpen and stranded two runners with a groundout, then worked scoreless seventh and eighth innings before running into trouble in the ninth.

Lytle led the Jayhawks at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a walk and one RBI. Eight different Bears had one hit apiece, with Ludy collecting two RBI.

KU starting pitcher Tanner Poppe did not factor in the decision after allowing three runs on four hits in 5.1 innings. He was relieved by Frank Duncan, who held the Bears scoreless on four hits in 2.2 innings of work.

The series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday. Baylor sends junior Trent Blank to the mound against Kansas freshman Alex Cox.
