WACO, Texas - Baylor's Danny Watkins and Phil Taylor are among the league-record 25 players that will attend the 2011 NFL Draft this week at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The previous high was last year, when 17 prospects were on hand at Radio City for the celebration of the 75th NFL Draft, the first-ever in primetime.
Baylor is one of five schools with multiple NFL Draft attendees, joining Alabama, Auburn, Missouri and UCLA; Alabama leads all schools with three attendees. In all, six players will represent the Big 12 Conference at the NFL Draft, second only to nine from the SEC.
Both Watkins and Taylor are projected by many experts to be drafted within the first 32 picks. Watkins, a former Canadian firefighter, is bringing five of his firefighting friends with him to New York for the Draft. Prior to the start of the Draft, Watkins plans to pay his respects at Ground Zero in Manhattan. Sic 'em Sports Productions will be in New York this week to follow Watkins and Taylor; updates can be found on BaylorBears.com.
The 2011 NFL Draft will begin Thursday, April 28, at 7 p.m. CDT with Round 1. It will continue Friday, April 29, at 5 p.m. CDT with Rounds 2-3 and conclude Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m. CDT with Rounds 4-7. NFL Network and ESPN/ESPN2 will provide television coverage on all three days.
