WACO - No. 17 Baylor (36-11, 7-6) managed just three hits, falling to No. 3 Texas (43-4, 12-0), 3-0 on Wednesday night before a Getterman Stadium record crowd of 1,484.

"We had our chances early, but give Texas a lot of credit because they are a great team," head coach Glenn Moore said. "You have to take advantage of opportunities when you get them, and mentally we just made some uncharacteristic mistakes tonight."

Whitney Canion (20-8) took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits, four walks and four strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Liz Paul came on for 2.2 innings, giving up three hits.

Baylor kept the game scoreless in the third on a nice defensive play, as Texas had runners at second and third with one out and Taylor Thom hit a groundout to Dani Leal at short. However, Thom got caught off third and was eventually run down for the double play.

The Lady Bears threatened in the bottom of the third with KJ Freeland being hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. With one out, Sydney Wilson sac bunted Freeland to scoring position, but a Kayce Walker groundout ended the threat.

The Longhorns took the lead in the fourth with an RBI-single from Kim Bruins up the middle, and doubled the advantage on a bases loaded walk to Taylor Hoagland for the 2-0 lead.

With two outs in the fourth, Clare Hosack drew a walk, and was pinch run for by Makenzie Robertson. Holly Holl roped a single to second to put runners at first and second, but a grounder to short from Freeland found Robertson interfering with the play, forcing her out to end the inning.

Texas added to its lead with a solo home run from Amy Hooks with one out in the fifth, making it 3-0.

Walker's single in the sixth was the last hit of the night for the Lady Bears, as Blaire Luna (25-2) picked up the win, going 7.0 innings, allowing three hits, three walks and striking out 10.

Baylor will hit the road to take on Iowa State in a two-game series beginning on Saturday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. in Ames, Iowa.
