LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 17 Baylor (30-6, 4-2) picked up the sweep, combining for 15 runs in the doubleheader wins at No. 24 Texas Tech (36-6, 1-5) on Wednesday night at Rocky Johnson Field in Lubbock. Baylor has won seven-straight in Lubbock.

Whitney Canion picked up a win and a save, striking out 14 in 10.0 combined innings of work.

"Everybody stepped up today," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We knew we needed to come in here and get a sweep, and I am so proud of how tough the girls were in getting it."

GAME ONE
No. 17 Baylor 5, No. 24 Texas Tech 1

Whitney Canion (16-4) carried a no-hitter into the seventh before a home run in the top of the seventh ended the chance. She finished with 11 strikeouts, allowing two hits, one run and one walk in a complete-game effort.

Her 11 strikeouts mark the second straight game she has totaled 10-plus strikeouts and seventh of the year.

Kathy Shelton led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Baylor jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Kathy Shelton and Kayce Walker led off with back-to-back singles and advanced to scoring position on a groundout from Megan Turk. That allowed Dani Leal to hit a sac fly down the right field line that scored Shelton, but the Lady Bears stranded Walker at first for a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Bears added another run in the third on a wild pitch that scored Walker from third. She walked and advanced to third on a error off a sacrifice bunt from Megan Turk.

Baylor doubled its lead in the fourth, as Holly Holl led off with a walk and advanced to second on an infield single from KJ Freeland. Clare Hosack hit a grounder to short and a bad throw to third allowed Holl to slide in safely and load the bases. A Shelbi Redfearn sac fly to left scored Holl and another sac lfy to center from Shelton made it 4-0.

The Lady Bears added another run in the seventh on an RBI-single from Turk that went up the middle to score Shelton from second, who reached on her second hit of the game.

Canion carried a no-hitter into the seventh, but a leadoff home run to left broke it up, making it 5-1. Despite allowing two hits in the inning, Canion got Raven Richardson swinging to end the game.

GAME TWO
No. 17 Baylor 10, No. 24 Texas Tech 3

Baylor used three pitchers and three home runs en route to a 10-3 win over Texas Tech in game two. The Lady Bears had a season high 17 hits in the nightcap.

Courtney Repka (8-1) got the win, coming on in relief, allowing one run on two hits and striking out one in 1.2 innings. Canion came on for the save, her second of the year, going 3.0 innings, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out three. Liz Paul started the game, going 2.1 innings, giving up five hits, two runs and striking out four.

KJ Freeland went 3-for-4 with two runs on the night, while Holl had four RBI.

Texas Tech took the early lead in the first, as a Cydney Allen RBI-single score Erin Bledsoe from second, who reached on a hit-by-pitch to lead off the game.

Dani Leal led off the second with a single and was pinch run for by Makenzie Robertson. After a sac bunt from Shelbi Redfearn put Robertson at third, allowing Holl to rip a double down the left field line to score Robertson, tying the game.

Two more runs crossed the plate for BU in the third, as Leal doubled to left, scoring Shelton, and Redfearn doubled to score Leal, making it 3-1.

Tech cut the lead in half on a solo shot by Emily Bledsoe to lead off the third.

The Red Raiders evened the game in the fourth on an Ashley Hamada RBI-single to left that scored Kimetria Ward.

Baylor busted the game open in the fifth with six hits and four runs, thanks to a three-run homer. Turk and Redfearn reached on singles and with one out, Holl belted her first home run of the year, an opposite-field homer for a 6-3 lead. BU made it a four-run lead on an RBI-single from Sydney Wilson.

A pair of round-trippers gave Baylor a 10-3 lead, as Leal led off the inning with a solo shot to right center for her 11th homer of the year. With two outs, Freeland reached on an error that allowed Clare Hosack to hammer a two-run shot over left field for her fourth of the year.

The Lady Bears remain on the road with a pair of games at No. 14 Oklahoma beginning on Saturday, April 9 at 2 p.m.
