WACO, Texas - In a matchup of teams tied atop the Big 12 standings, Baylor's ninth-ranked women's tennis team swept singles and doubles on its way to a 6-0 blanking of No. 38 Nebraska on Friday at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. The win marked Baylor's seventh in a row overall.

Baylor entered the match at 5-1 in league play, while Nebraska carried a 4-1 Big 12 record into the match, but the Lady Bears took control early with a sweep in doubles. Baylor then added a sweep across the singles courts, which included one defaulted match and an injury retirement for forfeits.

"Overall, I feel like we competed hard and did the best we could under the conditions," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "It's never easy to play when there is severe wind. It wasn't our best performance, but I think we are moving in the right direction. I'm definitely looking forward to having a practice. It's tough when playing as much as we're playing because you start losing your fundamentals some. We've just got to get back to the practice courts tomorrow and try to clean some things up."

In doubles, Baylor held the lead from outset in all three matches, with the combination of Sona Novakova and Diana Nakic recording the first victory. On Court 3, the Baylor pair raced out to a big lead and defeated Nebraska's Frederike Putthoff and Jennifer Holmberg, 8-2.

On Court 1, Nina Secerbegovic and Karolina Filipiak quickly clinched the point for Baylor, taking an 8-3 win over the Huskers' Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein. BU's Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win over Patrica Veresova and Janine Weinreich on Court 3.

In singles, Baylor got off to a hot start, led by one of the hottest singles lineups in the country. Featuring players on Courts 2, 3 and 4 with singles win streaks of at least five matches, Baylor clinched the match in a hurry. After an injury retirement by Maike Zeppernick on Court 5 gave Karolina Filipiak a victory at just 5-0 in the first set, the aforementioned threesome each picked up straight-set wins.

On Court 4, Stanivuk, ranked 103rd, won her fifth straight with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Weinreich, while the 38th-ranked Nakic won her ninth straight, 6-3, 6-3 over Weinstein. On Court 2, the biggest win streak of 15 continued by 36th-ranked Nina Secerbegovic with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Geibert.

Freshman Abby Stainback filled in for Ormond on Court 6 and grabbed a super-tiebreaker win. Stainback won the first set 6-1 over Holmberg, but lost the second, 4-6. In the super tiebreaker, Stainback dominated, 10-4, for the win.

In the only other match, Baylor's No. 14 Sona Novakova earned a default win, 6-3, 3-6, 2-1 over Veresova.

Baylor will finish up its weekend of matches on Sunday against Iowa State at the Baylor Tennis Center. The Bears and Cyclones will hit the first serve at 1 p.m. on BU's Senior Day. Seniors Taylor Ormond, Jelena Stanivuk and Karolina Filipiak will be honored.
