WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis team recorded its 21st straight with its 4-0 blanking of UT-Arlington in first round NCAA Tournament action at the Baylor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bears raised their season record to 26-3 and are now 21-12 all-time in NCAA Championship action. The Baylor victory snapped an 11-match UT-Arlington win streak.
Baylor quickly claimed the doubles point with wins at court three and court one, respectively. At No. 3 Diana Nakic and Sona Novakova breezed to an 8-2 win, then the 70th-ranked duo of Nina Secerbegovic and Karolina Filipiak, playing at the top court, claimed an 8-4 victory to clinch.
Filipiak got BU's first singles point with a straight-sets win on court five, 6-1, 6-1. Nakic, playing on court three, won her 18th straight match with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Secerbegovic clinched the Baylor victory with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles.
The fifth-seeded Baylor squad will now face Big 12 foe Oklahoma in second round action at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center. Oklahoma downed Cal Poly, 4-0, to advance.
"I'm glad UTA really pushed us. It will give our players a chance to look in the mirror and ask some questions of what they need to do better," said Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano. "Sunday will be a great match. We have a ton of respect for Oklahoma and they are capable of challenging us in every position. We have to play better Sunday than what we did today."
