INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 11 national seed Baylor softball team will hit the road to begin its NCAA Championship quest, traveling to the Maryland Regional beginning on Friday, May 20 with a match-up against Lehigh at 4:00 p.m. CT in College Park. Maryland will face off against East Carolina in the other game starting at 6:00 p.m. CT.
"It was a thrill to see our name pop up and get a seed I thought we deserved," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We are excited to head to the east coast, and we will just take it one game at a time."
The Lady Bears, who earned an at-large bid to the championship, enter the regional with a 40-12 mark after finishing fourth in the Big 12. Lehigh (33-21) won the Patriot League Tournament title after entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed.
Maryland (39-17) will host for the second-consecutive season after earning an at-large bid and finishing third in the ACC. East Carolina swept the Conference USA Tournament, earning the automatic bid, after finishing fifth in the regular season.
Baylor has never faced any of the other three teams in its regional.
The College Park regional is paired with the Georgia regional as the winners of the two regionals will square off in a best-of-three series to determine who advances to the NCAA Women's College World Series. The Athens, Ga., regional consists of the Bulldogs, the No. 6 overall seed, as well as Florida State, UAB and Georgia State.
The selection for the Lady Bears marks the sixth time in the last eight years the team has been selected to the NCAA Softball Championship.
