WACO, Texas - Baylor's women tennis team advanced to the NCAA Championships round of 16 with its 4-0 blanking of Big 12 conference foe Oklahoma at the Baylor Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bears, ranked No. 7 nationally and the tournament's No. 5 seed, will be playing at the NCAA Championships final site for the seventh straight year and eighth time overall. BU will face SMU on Friday, May 20 at 5 p.m. (CT), at the Taube Family Tennis Center at Stanford, Calif. Baylor and SMU met on March 23 in Waco, the Lady Bears posted a 4-3 victory. SMU advanced by posting wins over Texas A&M (4-3) and upsetting 12th-seeded Florida State (4-3) in College Station, Texas.

"We do real well when we know our opponent. SMU gave us a great match earlier in the season and so did Oklahoma, but we made adjustments and we figured out what we needed to do better. We are going to try to do that against SMU now," said Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano.

With the win, Baylor raised its season record to 27-3 and extended its win streak to 17 matches while the 24th-ranked Oklahoma squad's season ends at 19-7.

Doubles action was a quick affair, it took the Lady Bears just 45 minutes to claim the point. Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk, playing on court two, walked off the court first, defeating Ana Maria Constantinescu and Mia Lancaster, 8-1. At No. 3 doubles, Sona Novakova and Diana Nakic downed OU's Tara Eckel and Marie Pier Huet, 8-4.

After sitting out Saturday's singles action, senior Taylor Ormond made quick work of her last match on the Baylor courts with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles over Eckel. Nakic followed suit, finishing off Pier Huet on court three, 6-2, 6-2. The victory extended Nakic's win streak to 19 matches.

After losing the first set on court one, 6-3, 14th-ranked Novakova regrouped to win the next two sets, 6-1, 6-1, to clinch the match for the Lady Bears.

"I loved that we were challenged at every position. In singles and doubles, Oklahoma really pushed us. We don't have a false sense of confidence going into the championships. We have been tested. We know exactly where we stand right now and we know what areas we have got to improve on and what areas we are doing well," Scrivano added.

Today's match marked the final match at the Baylor Tennis Center for BU's three seniors, Karolina Filipiak, Ormond and Stanivuk.

"What the seniors have accomplished is pretty amazing. When you look at the numbers it is just staggering. They set the standard. Outside of winning a National Championship, which is still on the table, they have done it all. They have beaten all of the best teams out there. They have racked up tons of Big 12 Championships. There is just one goal left," said Scrivano.
