COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Despite recording just three hits, No. 11 Baylor (42-12) rode the arm of Whitney Canion to a 2-0 win over East Carolina (40-21) giving the Lady Bears their second-consecutive shutout in NCAA Regional play on Saturday afternoon in College Park, Md. BU is just one win away from its first regional title since 2009.

With her second-consecutive shutout, Canion has thrown 20 consecutive innings of shutout ball. It marked the first time she has thrown back-to-back complete-game shutouts since blanking opponents on back-to-back starts at Florida on Feb. 9, 2009 and Feb. 13 vs. New Mexico.

"We made the plays we needed to and battled our way to a win," head coach Glenn Moore said. "Toni Paisley was good today and kept us off balance, but we did just enough and Whitney carried us the rest of the way."

Canion (26-9) picked up her sixth complete shutout game of the year, allowing just two hits, one walk and eight strikeouts.

Kathy Shelton, Kayce Walker and Dani Leal recorded the lone hits for the Lady Bears.

Baylor took an early 1-0 lead in the first on a passed ball that allowed Kayce Walker to score from third. After a one-out hit from Walker to center followed by a stolen base put her in scoring position at second. Dani Leal then dropped down a bunt to third to reach safely, putting runners on the corners, allowing Walker to score on a passed ball on a 1-2 pitch to Holly Holl.

Canion retired 10-straight batters to begin the game before giving up her first hit with one out in the fourth.

Shelton spurred a 2-0 lead, leading off the sixth with a single to shortstop. After stealing second, Shelton advanced to third on a sac bunt from Kayce Walker before Megan Turk took a 2-2 pitch to right for the two-run advantage.

Canion struck out three of the last four batters to end any threat of a Pirates comeback.

Paisley (31-12) earned the loss after going 7.0 innings, allowing three hits, two runs, one earned, one walk and nine strikeouts.

The shutout was the 13th of the season for Baylor, who will now face East Carolina on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. CDT for the regional title. The game can be heard on ESPN Central Texas Radio.
