SCOUTING GEORGIA
Georgia is making its 10th-consecutive and 10th overall NCAA postseason appearance in school history, all under head coach Lu Harris-Champer. The Bulldogs are 36-18 overall in NCAA postseason play, and advanced to the Women's College World Series final four in 2009 and 2010. In the Athens Regional, Georgia posted an 8-0, five-inning win over Georgia State, defeated UAB, 9-2, and clinched the Athens Regional by defeating Florida State, 10-2 in six innings. Megan Wiggins leads a Bulldog offense that is third in the NCAA with 90 home runs, as the sophomore is hitting .385 with 22 doubles, 11 home runs and 49 RBI. In the circle, Morgan Montemayor is 26-3 with a 1.89 ERA, striking out 161 batters in 163.1 innings.
SERIES VS. GEORGIA
Baylor and Georgia have never met in Athens, however, the Bulldogs hold a 2-0 advantage all-time after a pair of wins at the 2009 Easton SEC/Pac-10/Big 12 Challenge in Tuscaloosa, Ala. UGA won 11-1 (5) on March 6 and 9-0 (5) on March 7.
BAYLOR IN THE NCAA'S
Baylor owns a 19-12 mark all-time at the NCAA €ˆSoftball Championship with a four regional titles (2005, 2007, 2009, 2011), one super regional championship (2007) and a Women's College World Series berth (2007). In the Lady Bears' last trip to the Super Regionals (2009), they were knocked out by Michigan in Ann Arbor.
CANION DOMINATES REGIONAL
Whitney Canion threw every pitch of the College Park Regional, leading BU to the title. The lefty went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA, allowing 5 hits, 6 walks and 30 strikeouts in 21 innings, including 6.2 innings of no-hit ball in the Regional final win over East Carolina. Opponents hit just .078 in the three games, as she threw three-straight shutouts for the first time in her career. Canion has now thrown 27 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to a first inning run at Texas on May 15, and has allowed just three runs in her last 48 innings.
SHELTON TOO
While Canion was dominating the regional in the circle, Kathy Shelton was doing the same at the plate. The sophomore, who has an eight-game hitting streak entering the weekend, hit .556 (5-for-9) with a pair of RBI and three stolen bases to go with a .600 on-base percentage.
CANION OWNS STRIKEOUT RECORD
Whitney Canion became the program's all-time strikeout leader on May 20 with her first strikeout of the game against Lehigh, giving her 760. The sophomore now has 789 for her career.
STEALING THE CENTURY MARK
Baylor has eclipsed the century mark for stolen bases (111), making it the ninth time in the last 10 years that the Lady Bears have had at least 100 steals. The program record is 155 set by the 2005 squad.
SCORE FIRST, SCORE A WIN
The Lady Bears are 13-1 this season when scoring in the first inning and 34-3 when scoring first. When leading after four innings, Baylor is 34-2, and when having a lead after six, it is 31-1. The lone loss came on a walk-off, two-run homer at Texas A&M on March 27.
RARE LOSING STREAKS
Until a pair of losses to No. 17 Oklahoma State on April 22-23, Baylor had not lost back-to-back games all season. The win over Iowa State on May 1 snapped only its second string of two-straight losses.
TURK DOESN'T WALK
Junior Megan Turk has yet to draw a walk this season. In fact, her last walk was on April 17, 2010 at Nebraska, 221 at-bats ago.
ARMED AND READY
The Baylor pitching staff has been nothing short of stellar, entering the weekend with a 1.43 ERA, sixth nationally. Canion's 1.16 ERA is good for 11th in the country.
HOSACK'S HOSE
Teams are thinking twice before stealing on freshman catcher, Clare Hosack. The North Palm Beach, Fla., native has thrown out 14-of-30 (47 percent) runners this season while adding four pickoffs.
