WACO, Texas - The red-hot Central Texas summer heat has forced a slight change in schedule for the Baylor football team's 2011 "Meet the Bears" fan appreciation event, presented by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance. This year's event will still be held on Saturday, Aug. 13th, in the Jay and Jenny Allison Indoor Practice Facility at the Highers Athletics Complex on University Parks Drive in Waco.
However, the event's time has changed due to an alteration in the team's practice schedule. Fans will be invited to watch the Bears scrimmage from 11:30 a.m. until 12:55 p.m., and then get autographs of their favorite players and coaches starting at 1 p.m. The autograph session will begin in the indoor facility following the scrimmage on the practice field.
Inflatables will again be set-up in the Allison Indoor facility for the children to enjoy, while 2011 schedule posters and schedule cards will also be available. Fans will be limited to two autographed items per player/coach. Due to Baylor graduation ceremonies being held in the Ferrell Center on Saturday morning, fans planning to attend Meet the Bears should plan to park at Baylor's East Campus Parking facility (2nd & Daughtrey) and ride the complimentary shuttles to the Highers Athletics Complex. The shuttle service is scheduled to run between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Limited spectator seating will be available for fans who want to watch the practice, and all fans are asked to sit in the on the side of the practice field closest to the Allison facility for the safety of not only themselves, but the players, coaches and staff, too.
Season tickets, which may be purchased for as low as $90 each for Baylor's seven-game 2011 home schedule, are available online, in person at the Baylor Athletics Ticket Office or via phone by calling 254-710-1000. Single-game tickets went on sale Aug. 8.
Coach Art Briles' Bears, fresh off the program's first bowl appearance since 1994, open their seven-game 2011 home schedule Sept. 2 with a 7 p.m. nationally televised ESPN game against 2011 Rose Bowl champion TCU. BU will also play host to Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 17), Rice (Sept. 24, Parents' Weekend), Iowa State (Oct. 8), Missouri (Nov. 5, Homecoming), Oklahoma (Nov. 19) and Texas (Dec. 3) at Floyd Casey Stadium in 2011.
