WACO, Texas - For the second consecutive game the Baylor soccer team (6-1-1) used a pair of second-half goals en route to a 2-0 win, as the Bears defeated North Texas (5-1-1) Sunday afternoon at Betty Lou Mays Field. The victory was the sixth-straight home win for the Bears, who are 5-0 so far in 2011.

"We came out and played much better today," head coach Marci Jobson said. "I thought our depth wore them down and we really controlled the whole game."

Baylor's record of 6-1-1 matches the 2010 squad's record through the first eight games and marks the first time the Bears have won six of their first eight games in back-to-back seasons since 1998 and 1999.

Hanna Gilmore notched a goal in her second consecutive game, while Dana Larsen recorded her team-leading fourth goal of the year. Hannah Dismuke and Bethany Johnston each picked up assists for BU.

The Bears dominated the shot category 23-4, including a 14-2 advantage in the second half.

Scoreless at the break, BU took a 1-0 lead when Gilmore buried her third goal of the season with a one-touch shot off a corner kick from Dismuke that found her open in the center of the box from 12 yards out.

Maintaining a majority of the possession all game long, Baylor put the game away in the 83rd minute with a header from Dana Larsen off a cross from Johnston. A Taylor Heatherly corner kick went long and found the feet of Johnston, who calmly found Larsen on the back post for an easy flick into the net.

Courtney Seelhorst was forced to make just one save on the afternoon, collecting her fifth shutout of the year and the third in the last four games.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak to UNT and was the first over the Mean Green since a 4-3 overtime win on Aug. 31, 2003.

Baylor will now open Big 12 play on the road against Texas A&M (4-4-0) Friday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in College Station.
