Equestrian Hosts Willis Invitational

The Baylor equestrian team will open its 2011-12 season by hosting the fourth-annual Willis Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Willis Family Equestrian Center. The Bears are three-time defending champions, and look to make it four in-a-row.

"We have some good teams coming in," head coach Ellen White said. "But we want to keep the trophy at home and I think we have the team to do it."

The competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, as Baylor takes on South Dakota State, while Fresno State faces Miami (Ohio). Each matchup will complete fences and reining before beginning flat and horsemanship. The second round of matches will begin at approximately 1:45 p.m. The Bears will then face Miami(Ohio), while Fresno State will compete against New Mexico State. The day will end with flat and horsemanship, as fences and reining will be completed Saturday.

Saturday's events will continue at 9:00 a.m., and Baylor will face Fresno State, While Miami (Ohio) will take on South Dakota State starting at approximately 11:00 a.m.

The competition format will feature a series of head-to-head match ups. The team accumulating the most head-to-head victories will win the overall match. In the event of a tie, the victor will be determined by total points. In addition, there will be an individual award for the most valuable rider in each event.

The event is open to the public and no admission is charged.
