WACO - Despite a 16-11 shot advantage, the Baylor soccer team (9-2-2, 1-1-1) drew a 0-0 tie with Texas Tech (7-3-2, 1-0-1) at Betty Lou Mays Field Friday night. The tie keeps Baylor a perfect 7-0-1 at home this season.
Courtney Seelhorst came up with four big saves for the Bears to earn her eighth shutout of the year.
"Our defense was amazing tonight and Courtney came up big like the captain she is," head coach Marci Jobson said. "We had our chances and really controlled the last 75 minutes of the game. We just have to be more composed in front of goal."
Vic Hoffman led the way with four shots, while Lisa Sliwinski added two of the team's three shots on goal.
Seelhorst came up with her first big save in the 68th minute, as Jessica Fuston had a point blank header in front of goal that was thwarted away, keeping the game scoreless.
Baylor nearly took the lead in the 89th minute, as Karlee Summey lofted a shot that was tipped just over the crossbar by Tech goalie Victoria Esson.
In the first overtime, a ball was delivered across the front of the goal that found Bethany Johnston running from eight yards out, but the open-goal shot went high over the post, keeping the game scoreless.
Seelhorst registered her final save of the game with a diving play to her left, preserving the tie in the 105th minute.
The tie marked the first time this season the Bears have not scored a goal.
Baylor have a week off before traveling to face Kansas on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4:00 p.m.
