LA QUINTA, Calif. - Baylor freshman Ema Burgic managed a split in a pair of matches at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic on Saturday in La Quinta, Calif.

"Ema came out and competed hard today," assistant coach Alison Ojeda said. "We really like her aggressiveness in both matches today."

Burgic, who suffered an opening-round loss on Friday, bounced back to dominate her first consolation match of the day over Texas' Carlene Layden. Burgic lost just one game on her way to a 6-0, 6-1 win for her first-career victory in a Baylor uniform.

Burgic then faced Texas' Cierra Gaytan-Leach in the next round of consolation play, but couldn't get her game going in a 6-3, 6-4 loss.

Burgic will be back on the court at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday in more consolation play at the NCTC. She will face her third Longhorn in two days, Elizabeth Begley.
