WACO, Texas - Baylor's fifth-ranked women's tennis team will put its five-match win streak on the line against Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center. With the possibility of inclement weather, the match location is subject to change.
Baylor enters the midweek match with the 'Jacks with a 5-0 record to open 2012, including three in a row at home as part of an eight-match homestand. The perfect record also helped move the Lady Bears up one spot to No. 5 in the latest ITA team rankings released Tuesday.
Baylor has been able to manage a perfect start despite battling injuries and a multitude of lineup changes. The constants, however, have been seniors Nina Secerbegovic and Sona Novakova, who have each played their way to a 5-0 dual-match singles record.
As a team, the Lady Bears are 22-8 in singles play during the dual-match season, and have also gotten perfect 3-0 records from sophomores Jordaan Sanford and Abby Stainback, as well as a 4-1 mark from freshman Megan Horter.
In doubles, Baylor is just 8-6 overall in dual-match play, but the Secerbegovic/Horter and Novakova/Diana Nakic tandems each have posted 3-0 records. Secerbegovic is also 2-0 when playing with Sanford in dual-match doubles, giving her a 5-0 mark in the five matches.
Live stats will be available on www.BaylorBears.com. With the possibility of rainy weather in the forecast, the match could possibly be re-located to the Lion Tennis Center in Ennis, Texas.
