WACO, Texas - Baylor women's tennis sophomore Ema Burgic came up one win short of winning the singles title at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships, after she was beaten by the event's No. 1 seed, Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar of Texas A&M, on Tuesday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

"Sanchez-Quintanar is just a great player," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "She just outplayed Ema today. You don't have a lot of margin for error when you are playing a player of that caliber and Ema wasn't able to take advantage of the opportunities she had today."

The seventh-seeded Burgic, who had won five straight matches to reach the tournament's singles finale, took the country's fourth-ranked player to a third set, but ended up losing 6-2, 0-6, 6-3.

On the season, Burgic falls to 11-3 and 6-2 against ranked players.

The Lady Bears will next be in action on Nov. 8 with selected players traveling to the USTA/ITA Indoor Championships in New York, while other players will compete at the Jack Kramer Club Invite in Rolling Hills, Calif.

"I have a lot of work to do, because my team is not playing the right way under pressure," Scrivano said. "Honestly, we are just not good right now overall."
