HOT START AGAINST STRONG COMPETITION
Baylor plays half of its 2012 schedule (28 of 56 games) against 2011 NCAA €ˆTournament teams. The Bears' first eight games of the season were all against teams that played in last year's tournament, and the Bears posted an impressive 6-2 record in those games.

The Bears then rolled to a 7-1 win over No. 15 TCU on Feb. 21, with three pitchers combining to carry a no-hitter through 7.2 innings.
The Bears continued their hot streak with a 5-1 win over Texas State at The Dell €ˆDiamond in Round Rock, and they extended their winning streak to six with a 15-3 win at No. 22 UCLA €ˆon Feb. 24. The Bears finally cooled off with losses in their last two games at UCLA, including losing a two-run lead in the eighth inning of the series finale.
Four of the eight games during the season-opening stretch were away from Baylor Ballpark, and the Bears went 2-2 in those games. In the four home games during the stretch, Baylor pitchers allowed only six total runs, posting a 1.00 ERA.
