WACO, Texas - The No. 15 Baylor softball team (18-5) opened its spring break with a pair of shutout victories, defeating North Dakota State (14-11) 1-0 in eight innings before taking down UTSA €ˆ(10-12) 5-0 in the nightcap.

"I thought we relaxed a little better in game two after we knocked some rust off in the first game," head coach Glenn Moore said. "Our pitching really stepped up and did well and we started swinging the bats."

Game One
No. 15 Baylor 1, North Dakota St. 0 (8)

The Lady Bears broke the scoreless tie in the eighth with a fielder's choice from Delaney Guy that scored Jill Reid for the 1-0 win over North Dakota State in game one.

Courtney Repka and Liz Paul combined for the complete-game shutout, allowing three hits and striking out five. Paul (4-2) earned the win, going 3.1 innings, giving up two hits, walking four and striking out three.

The Bison threatened in the top of the eighth, as the international tiebreak was in effect, placing a runner at second. A leadoff walk followed by a single to first loaded the bases with no outs. Paul got Brandi Enriquez to fly out to center before inducing a inning-ending double play that saw Jordan Strickland field a grounder, step on second and fire over to first to keep the game scoreless.

Kayce Walker paced the offense with two of the team's five hits.

Game Two
No. 15 Baylor 5, UTSA 0

Kathy Shelton tied a career high with four hits while adding a run and two RBI to help guide Baylor to a 5-0 win over UTSA in game two.

Paul and Repka again combined for the shutout, as Paul earned her second win after giving up one hit and striking out three in 4.0 innings.

Baylor opened the game by scoring one in the first, as Walker opened with a double to right center and advancing to third on an infield single from Shelton. That brought Megan Turk to the plate, hitting a grounder to second for an RBI and a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Bears doubled their lead in the fourth with an attempted double steal, as Kelsi Kettler took off for second, drew a throw home and allowed Delaney Guy to cross home to make it 2-0.

Turk tallied her second RBI of the game for a three-run lead with an single to center field, scoring Shelton from second for a 3-0 lead.

Baylor added two more in the top of the seventh with a one-out, two-RBI single from Shelton that scored Walker and Kaitlyn Thumann for the five-run cushion.

The Lady Bears will host North Texas on Wednesday at 6:00 pm at Getterman Stadium.
