WACO, Texas- Down 3-0 against No. 22 Clemson, Baylor's 13th-ranked women's tennis team clawed its way to a 4-3 on Tuesday night at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

Baylor's (13-5) loss in the doubles point, coupled with losses on Courts 5 and 6, left the Lady Bears in a big hole against its ninth consecutive top-25 opponent. But, the top of the Baylor lineup had built a one-set lead on Courts 1-4 to maintain a portion of control in the match. From there, the comeback came in a rush with all four courts finishing in a 12-minute span to give BU the win.

"We dug ourselves into a humongous hole, but we showed some character today and that's the most important thing," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "The last few practices we've started to show more of that. Diana (Nakic) had a really nice win, and I'm really proud of her coming out and playing the way she did. From right here, I feel like we are on the ground floor, and we are just going to start building from here for the rest of the season."

After the Tigers (9-6) had claimed their first two singles wins, it was Baylor freshman Ema Burgic that started the huge comeback. Burgic took down Beatrice Gumulya 6-4, 6-4 to cut the lead to 3-1 overall. Less than two minutes later, 53rd-ranked Sona Novakova earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Clemson's No. 112 Nelly Ciolkowski.

Now down just 3-2, the match was on the shoulders of Baylor's top two ranked players, No. 13 Diana Nakic and No. 27 Nina Secerbegovic. Nakic finished first to tie the score at 3-3 with a 6-2, 6-3 win on Court 1, but Secerbegovic had won the first and was down 5-3 in the second.

The senior battled back against the Tigers' top-ranked player, No. 47 Keri Wong, following a service break with a hold of serve to tie the set at 5-5. The pair then each held serve to force a tiebreak at 6-6. Secerbegovic got out to a hot start, scoring five of the first six points, and finished it off 7-4 to clinch the win for Baylor.

In doubles, Clemson's top-ranked duo on Court 1 fell, but the Tigers had already wrapped up the point with wins on Courts 2 and 3. On the top court, Baylor's 46th-ranked duo of Secerbegovic and Burgic kept their record undefeated as partners with a tie-break win, 8-7(4). Clemson's Romy Kolzer and Gumulya defeated Novakova and Nakic 8-5, and Klara Vyskocilova and Monika Kochanova took down BU's Nicola Kosakowski and Megan Horter 8-3.

Baylor will hit the road this weekend for back-to-back matches in the Sunflower State. The Lady Bears will face Kansas at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Lawrence, Kan., then travel down the highway to Manhattan to face No. 75 Kansas State at noon on Sunday.
