The No. 17 Baylor softball team (22-11) returns home for its final non-conference games of the regular season with a doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin (9-21) beginning at 3:00 pm on Wednesday. The twin bill is a makeup of the scheduled doubleheader that was rained out on March 20.
"This begins a very important stretch for our team," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We are just going to take it game by game and pitch by pitch."
Baylor enters the game after dropping its last four conference games. Kathy Shelton continues to pace the BU offense with a .375 average, good for ninth in the Big 12. The junior also leads the Lady Bears in runs (25), hits (36), slugging (.458), on-base percentage (.479) and stolen bases (18). Holly Holl currently sits in a six-game hitting streak, tied for second-longest on the year by a BU player.
Junior Courtney Repka (10-6, 1.43 ERA) and sophomore Liz Paul (6-5, 2.42 ERA) lead a pitching staff that has a 1.63 ERA that is fourth in the Big 12.
SFA snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over UTA on Saturday. Hitting .201 with a 4.16 ERA on the year as a team, Elizabeth Arana leads the squad with a .329 average, three home runs and 14 RBI.
The two teams will be meeting for the first time since Feb. 15, 2009, while the Lady Bears hold a 31-18 advantage all time and are winners of 10-straight in the series.
